AutoAid 143 posts Nov 07, 2008 9:07 AM	To learn more about what you could reasonably expect for earnings, you may wish to talk with those already operating in your area. I would also subscribe to publications like Tow Times, the American Towman, etc. because these are excellent sources of information and resources. If you haven't already, it's a real good idea to write a business plan instead of just getting your hands on a tow truck and starting off in the world of business. Now, unless you plan on borrowing money for this venture, you probably won't need a fity-some-odd-page formal business plan, but even a mini plan is better than nothing. The areas you should address in the plan are (1) defining your business and describing how it will be run; (2) marketing: what you will do to make people use your service as opposed to others in the area; (3) how much it will cost you to go into business ... including, but not limited to, equipment, insurance, licensing, permits, etc.; and, (4) what you will do if things don't work out and the business closes. Much of that is based upon an experience they had with the high costs associated with having to have their vehicle towed, or having had it impounded for some reason. You, towtrucks, and I know better; that the cost of owning and running tow trucks, along with all the insurance and permits and stuff that's required, drives costs through the clouds. It's one of the hardest means to get rich on Earth, and not getting any easier with time. Still, there will always be those who think is the perfect road to riches.
